they mystery of life

I initially thought it was because of my age that i was noticing so many women pregnant. I sort of thought that i had reached the age when many women my age were giving birth. Apparently i was wrong. There is a baby boom happening in Australia. Since 2005, women have been giving birth to more children than the previous 10 or so years.

As i watch the stomachs of these women swell to almost unbearable sizes, i can't help but wonder the reason for the sudden increase in births. The previous government was quick to take credit for it, but adding a few more dollars to help cover child expenses doesn't seem like a reasonable reason to have children in mass droves.

I'm sure that finances did play a part in the decision. I mean, no couple would just have sex and produce a baby without thinking it through, right?....well...perhaps there is a flaw in that last statement.

Perhaps the answer lies there. Maybe the government has been putting aphrodisiacs in our water to increase the birth rate of the country. It's underhanded, immoral, and probably illegial...but those things have never stopped them before.

Maybe there is something to be said for the mystery of life. Why are there times when it there are baby booms and why are there baby not-booms. Why do mothers have children in desperately poor countries? Why don't mothers have children in wealthy countries? There is more to the question than economics. There is more to this question than love. I don't know that i believe it can be quantified so easily in terms and quasions. It is simply part of the mystery of life.

hope

We've had some high winds here recently. That probably explains why it happened.

This morning as i walked onto the campus, i found small baby bird on the ground. Every little while, a mother or father bird would come and feed it some food, but the baby obviously couldn't yet fly.

All day long, as i rushed from one meeting to another, i kept finding that the baby was still being protected and cared for by his parents. It was quite sweet.

He may not live through tonight, but he is definitely something i will be looking for tomorrow when i head back to work.

I hope he makes it.

no sex?!

There is a movie coming out (or maybe its already out, i can't remember) called Children of Men. It deals with the idea that humans, in the future, can no longer pro-create. Its a scary idea that humans should stop having children. It appears that the phanominon is already happening in Japan. But their lack of children doesn't seem to be from any medical problem. It stems from just not having sex.

Apparently one third of Japan's population hasn't had sex in at least a month! They are just too busy to take time for themselves. So while we already knew the married couples weren't having sex, it appears that even single men and women are forfitting sex for work.

Now admittedly i enjoy the good life. (Which in my case refers to lots of time by myself, a decent amount of time with my husband, and some of that time pro-creating safely...so as not to have children) I just can't imagine choosing to work instead of enjoy a little pleasure of the flesh!

I am beginning to think this is an epidemic. Asian countries have long been known for their strong work ethic and long hours...but studies are starting to show that other countries are following suit. America, Europe, Australia...all have had studies done in the last 2 years that suggest people are working longer and longer hours. They are more tired and less productive (and not just in the baby department)

How long before human kind forgets how to procreate!...

but i live in a bubble, so it doesn't affect me.

in news

I love how late night comedians always start their monologs with, "today in the news.." . It makes me feel like i'm actually aware of what is happening. Today i decided to go searching for my own news. I went to my usual spot for news in a flash GOOGLE NEWS! I found two stories that interested me.

1. Conjoined babies seperated.

2. OJ Simpson doesn't get money from failed book deals.

I thought the news was especially positive today.
