the wedding dance

It is so nice to see a loving couple dance their first dance together. It's sweet and tender. I thought i might share this moment with you. While it isn't me in the film, you'll understand why i think this touching moment is worth sharing.

Truly sexist?

Apparently some churches in Sweden are banning fathers giving away their daughters. The reason for banning it is because it's sexist.

Couples who marry "are equal when it comes to finances, politics, values ... but when they come to the church ... the woman suddenly turns into a man's property"Lutheran Church vicar, Yvonne Hallin said.

I was walked down the aisle my by father, but i was not given away by him. I too, felt like being "given away" was being treated like i was property. Yet, i was still happy for my father to walk me down the aisle to symbolise the life i had led with my family was ending.

So is being given away at a wedding too traditional? Is it truly treating women like property or celebrating tradition and giving parents their rightful respect?

Would it be sexist if the man was given away by his family as well?

its a nice day for a white wedding...

It is traditional at wedding to hear the dinging of cutlery on glass, the signal for the couple to kiss. While attending a wedding over the weekend i was quite amused at the brides reaction to the ding. No matter how soft or loud the ding was, she immediately went to her new husband for a kiss. He smuggly asked her if she was going to do that *every* time she heard a ding and she responded "YES!". She then dropped her own fork onto her plate, heard the ding, and went in for another kiss.

Needless to say, i don't think her new husband was even a little bit annoyed by it.
