Truly sexist?

Apparently some churches in Sweden are banning fathers giving away their daughters. The reason for banning it is because it's sexist.

Couples who marry "are equal when it comes to finances, politics, values ... but when they come to the church ... the woman suddenly turns into a man's property"Lutheran Church vicar, Yvonne Hallin said.

I was walked down the aisle my by father, but i was not given away by him. I too, felt like being "given away" was being treated like i was property. Yet, i was still happy for my father to walk me down the aisle to symbolise the life i had led with my family was ending.

So is being given away at a wedding too traditional? Is it truly treating women like property or celebrating tradition and giving parents their rightful respect?

Would it be sexist if the man was given away by his family as well?

Unfortunate names

Don't ya hate it when you work out a name for a object (or possibly child) only to discover the acronym is something like "Unholy" or "Twit"?

such was the case for the poor South Lake Union Trolley...er, i mean, Streetcar, in Seattle.

Bad Day

Its a bad day when you're in a car accident. It's even worse when your declared dead. But what is worse than that? When you aren't dead but wake up during your own autopsy.

Carlos Camejo, from Venezuela was pronounced dead after a highway accident. He was taken to the morgue, then into autopsy where the pain of facial incisions apparently woke him up.

His grieving widow rushed to the hospital to identify the body, only to find the body still moving! I imagine her day improved at this point.

So the moral of the story is...even if you're 'dead', your day can still get worse..or better, depending on your perspective.

Whats your worth

What is the value of your life? What do you contribute to your society? Do you contribute? If you answered no the the last question, you may be in danger of being lit on fire.

According to some teenagers in Japan, if you don't contribute to the society/economy, than you are no more valuable than rubbish or a stray animal. Thus, setting you on fire and distinguishing your existance helps clean the area for people who are more profitable than you are.

So next time you consider joining a nudist colony with strong communist overtones, remember the lessson from the teens: Do Something Important or Die Screaming.

Public Transport Tips

Apparently, some people don't understand unspoken codes of conduct when using public tranportation. So i've created a quick tips section to help those hapless blonds make it to their pimps via the bus rout.

1. Dress in whatever skany outfit you want, but where a sweater over the top so as not to distract the driver...cause he'll throw you off if you do.
2. Have as much jewlery as you desire. Bling it out baby....but keep it all in your purse until you reach your destination. But don't wear it because it might distract the driver...and he'll throw you off if you do.
3. Big hair is cool for certain occasions...but if you need to take the bus, plan on an extra 30 minutes and phoof up your hair in the public restroom WHEN YOU REACH YOUR DESTINATION. becuase if you distract the driver...he'll throw you off.

The real News

After a mere 25 years on the planet, i'm sure i've seen a fair amount of heavily biased media. It's so true that the mainstream media that is pumped through our televisions and radios are funded by big business or government that have a vested interested in making sure that the information we hear and see suits their interests. I found out today that there is a website that is starting an independent news site....should be interesting...

news or no news

I remember in High School two of my teachers saying they refused to watch the news at night because of how awful it all was. At the time that seemed fair. If you don't like whats being said, don't listen to it.

Now graduated from College, i don't go more than 10 hours without watching or reading the news. No, the news is not any better than it was in High School, but i feel uninformed if i don't. Most of it is terrible news...some times it is down right offencive. Yet i still watch.

The thing is, it really does bother me to watch our world crumble...or at least appear to. I'm not effected directly by wars, politics, or disasters; not yet at least. But i know that is changing. Climate change is effecting Australia, as is ozone damage...all this directly affect me. From how often i put on sunscreen to how much water i use to wash my dishes or water my plants. It makes me wonder when the other issues are going to creep into my world. It seems only a matter of time before my life becomes directly entangled with the world politics. (or maybe this is my religious paranoia)

It feels like an inevitable car crash. you can see the car coming towards you. You can't avoid the crash. Do you watch with morbid fascination as it comes towards you? or do you close your eyes and hope it goes away of its own accord?

I love how late night comedians always start their monologs with, "today in the news.." . It makes me feel like i'm actually aware of what is happening. Today i decided to go searching for my own news. I went to my usual spot for news in a flash GOOGLE NEWS! I found two stories that interested me.

1. Conjoined babies seperated.

2. OJ Simpson doesn't get money from failed book deals.


I thought the news was especially positive today.
