day trip

Today i'm taking a special friend out. We are going to go see things that i've never seen before. and i'm hoping we'll have a really fun day! My friend is 87 years young. I want to take her to places that will make her really happy, but to be honest, i'm not completely sure where to take her. I'm currently thinking that a tour of the Hunter Valley Gardens sounds like a really good idea...any ideas for next time?

The gardens are really nice :)

Can't remember much with the Hunter Valley, other than coal mines, but I believe there is or was a Hunter Valley Magazine thing - you might be able to find it online - and they always had loads of things that were happening or around in the Newcastle to upper-Hunter area.

Hey Kris,

The Gardens are good, my only complaint is the price and their age. A few years when they are more matured and they will be stunning.

There are some really quaint places in the Hunter Valley. Once you get over the wineries, which can be quite fascinating, but for non-drinkers, rather tedious, there are heaps of places to go. The town of Broke is cute, and the petrol station on the corner sells some of the best oranges I have ever had. If you venture out to Milbourdale (sp?) you can actually go to the place where they are grown. They lady who owns the farm is a real gem. They have grown their own rainforest which they will show you through for about $5.

On the other side of Maitland is the town of Morpeth. It is full of craft shops and hand-made stuff. Very nice. If you keep driving to Dungog you can head out to Chichester dam. That can be a very pleasant drive through rolling country.

shows a few of these places. Wollombi is cute as well. If you head out from Cessnock look out for the houses that look like mini-aeroplane hangers as you leave Cessnock, they are on the right.

Let me know if you want more!
