veil of secrecy

Why is it such a big deal that muslim women wear a veil over their face? If it were truely a matter of safety, we would outlaw those horible looking lounge-wear tents older white women wear. What are we willing to take off for the sake of "safety"? Are you willing to go around without a shirt on in order to prove that you don't have a bomb strapped to your chest? Come on!

Not being able to see a woman's face does not necessarily "take power away from her" either. In some ways it gives her more power because of the secrecy of her veil. She obviously knows something that you don't, there is power in that.

I wish some people would just leave the veils alone. If a woman feels more comfortable with a veil, let her wear it! For gooness sake, we let teenagers walk around with bright red hair and chains hanging out their nose. We can afford to let muslim women wear a black veil.
